PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

Saturday’s inaugural ANU v UC InterVarsity Day was a fantastic day with our senior clubs playing 11 games against each other and University Juniors contributing with a free barbeque, face painting and some of our U11s and Hin2H players joining in to welcome the CL1 players onto the field as well as playing a short game at half time.
I would like to pay a particular thanks to our hardworking Committee who ran the BBQ, Meredythe, Michael, Tamara, Melanie and Andrew H and Tracey who took charge of the face-painting, as well as Doug and Sonnie who brought a great group of kids down from Under 11s and a few Hin2H families who also participated.

This weekend we have the second Hin2H Carnival at Queanbeyan from 9.00am – 11.30am and the final round of the Minor Premiership.  We are also hosting the BBQ at Willows for the Under 11 games – please pop along and support the Club.

Good luck to those teams looking to hold or improve their positions on the ladder with respect to semi-finals, and for those that have missed out, may you finish your season on a positive note.

Andrew Sutton
President

Wanted – BBQ helpers.
Next weekend (the 9th of September) we are running the BBQ at Willows and together with the Under 11 Finals we have our Hin2H Presentations which includes a free sausage sizzle for those participants.

With the Under 13 and Under 18s finals also on at Lyneham that morning, we are seeking your help to run the BBQ.  We are particularly asking those that are in the Under 15s, the Hook in2 Hockey and Under 11 families to help out.  If you can spare some time from 8.00am until around noon, can you please contact Andrew Sutton at contact@unijuniorshockey.com.au with your availability.  Thank You.

  Bunyip Trophy – InterVarsity Games

The day started off with the Roulettes flying over to welcome the ANU and UC CL2 Women to the field.  It was a tight game with both teams having their chances to score but after a scoreless draw, the CL2 Men took to the field.  UC took the lead before ANU responded with 2 goals before UC scored late to keep the Bunyip Trophy alive with the CL1 Women to play.  ANU took the lead with a goal late in the first half and managed to hang on to win 3-2 in a terrific hard fought game to retain the Bunyip Trophy for the 5th year running.  It was fantastic to see quite a few current and ex- Uni Junior girls featuring throughout the day and we look forward to seeing a few of our boys doing likewise in the years to come.

U11/1 Boys – Yet another great game from the team on saturday winning 2~0 against st pats. Big thanks to Jack from div2 for helping us out. With one more game till the final we should finish 2nd.
~ Brayden & Deck
Best & Fairest was Decklan and Makhaya and the Grill’d Award went to Makhaya.U11/2 Boys –

U11/2 Boys – We started the game with a lot of confidence, and it was a real tussle early on with neither team able to score a goal.  Late in the first half the undefeated Queanbeyan team (10 wins, 2 draws) scored a goal against the run of play, and we went into half time down 1 goal to nil.  After coach Richard spoke to us at half time we came out with a lot more energy, and we had a lot of possession in the second half.  There was some great passing between our midfield and our forwards and our defence was rock solid in the second half, with Charlie making some great saves in goals.  Jack also did some really good hits from the back which made it all the way up to our forwards, but Queanbeyan’s defenders managed to stop our attack.  Felix almost scored a goal late in the second half, but unfortunately the ball touched his foot just before it went through the posts. Although we didn’t win, the game was definitely our best game of the season.

U11/1 Girls – It was always going to be a tough game against the undefeated United team this week. The scoreline was 1-0 (down) at half time, thanks to great defence by Julia and Pippa (who made an amazing chest high save!). Indira, Luca and Ainsley were all solid defensive supporters, and their marking was excellent. Olivia scored a goal, from a great period of teamwork which started with a free hit from Julia in the back. We lost 3-1 but against the top team, so it was a fantastic effort.

Awesome Effort award – Sophie, who worked hard this week to run back and help out our defenders throughout the game.

U11/2 Girls – This week we played United and it was a tight and thrilling game with Remy in goal having to make a number of saves. Up front Chloe and Saraya lead our forays into the opposition circle on a number of occasions, culminating in an impressive first up shot by Saraya, which after deflecting of the full backs stick was slotted in by Chloe to secure our only goal of the game.  Once again the girls have put into practice those skills they learned on Wednesdays with Coach and the passing was sharp and to our own players.  Strong performances by Josie, Natalia and Maddi in the halves kept the ball moving forwards.

U13/1 Girls – Last Saturday we played against Central, the score was 9-0.  We won! We played at Tuggeranong on the beach field. The weather was lovely to play a game.
The goals were scored by: Lauren H, Lauren Y, Ruby, Abbey, Sarah, Olivia
We played well and improved some of our skills like passing wide and calling. Ed and Dani put us in different positions that we don’t usually play, and it worked quite well. Jess (our goalie) didn’t even touch the ball in the circle. Central played quite well as they were down by a few players. Their goalie played well and saved more goals then she let in.”

Grill’d Awesome Effort award went to Abbey L who scored 3 goals whilst playing outside her usual position, great work Abbey

U15/2 B Girls – Our game on Friday night was a real attack game. We started strong with our team scoring a goal in the first 15 minutes.  We had lots of positive talk on the field and went on to score another 3 goals before half time.  Darramalan came back fighting in the second half and scored a tomahawk goal. We fought back, had lots of missed shots but went on to score another goal. Overall it was a great game with lots of positive talk, great passing to each other and trying some different position’s.  Great game girls!!
This weeks Awesome Effort award went to Ash for some good back stick hits across the circle, even if Rachel disapproved!

~ Dani Ewer

U18 Girls The Pink Panthers took on St Pats in the 2nd last game of the minor premiership and came away with a solid 5-0 victory.  With a few keys players out injured, it took us a while to take the lead, but from then on, we were never headed.  Goal scorers were Madi and Skye 2 each and Sophie (Woody) 1.  Skye was also Best and Fairest.
The Grill’d Awesome effort Award goes to Jane for her outstanding block tackling with no one able to penetrate all game
