PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

This weekend sees one of Hockey ACT’s biggest activities the Chris McKinnon Memorial Weekend. For those that did not know Chris or of her and her families involvement in hockey, and without taking up the whole bulletin, it could be best summed up as being unsurpassed! Chris unfortunately lost her battle with breast cancer a few years ago and Hockey ACT have partnered with her family’s Club United and the National Breast Cancer Foundation to raise funds to help fight breast cancer. There will be a number of activities over the weekend including a massive raffle (http://www.hockeyact.org.au/News/chris-mackinnon-memorial-weekend-raffle) and on Sunday the inaugural Chris McKinnon Memorial Breakfast (http://www.hockeyact.org.au/News/chris-mackinnon-memorial-breakfast) .
I, on behalf of Uni Juniors ask that you support either of both of these activities. Thank you.

Andrew Sutton
President

We ask that you please understand that reports can be written by players of all age groups & level of comprehension/grammar standards. Our job is to enjoy and celebrate the child standing up and publishing a reflection of something as powerful as sport.
U11/1 Boys- The team played a very good game against the old Canberrans on the weekend. We won 8-0. The passing was very good, as well how we worked together as a team, to get the ball wide and score goals. Something thing we could improve on is our defence by more people coming back, to help defend. Overall, I think we had a solid game.
Best & Fairest: Cameron and the Grill’d “Awesome Effort” award: Ethan.

U11/2 Boys – This weekend the U11/2 boys went down 0-2 in a great game against Marist. Although the game started slowly, Edward was on fire in the midfield early on and the game developed into a tightly-fought contest once the team really got going. Owen put his hand up for goalie duties again and along with the other backs, gave us a rock-solid defence for the whole game. Jack’s big clearances were fantastic, getting the team out of trouble again and again and setting up the play in the midfield and up forward.
While we didn’t come away with a goal, Jakson, Finn and Felix worked super-hard to create chance after chance in the D and had the parents on their toes in anticipation throughout the game. In the end, Marist played very well and managed two goals in the final 10 minutes to seal the victory. All of the boys played very well and deserve to be proud of their efforts.

U11/1 Girls – This week our team took on a strong Central 2 team. Half-time saw a very credible 2-2 draw in what was a challenging and fast paced game. The second half saw wave after wave of Central attack however scintillating defence from Julia (full back), and Josie (goal keep) keep the final score to 4-2 to Central 2. This week again saw improvement in our team play with a few more plays making it out wide, this is something we will continue to work on for the rest of the season. A huge thank you to Josie, Chloe, Amiee for playing this week when some of our players were away.
The Grill’d “Awesome Effort” award: With self-confidence and determination Julia this week kept us within striking distance of Central. Her numerous defensive tackles and strong clearances out to her halves and wings meant the team were always in striking distance. Well done Julia.
U11/2 Girls –
This week we took on Checks in a thrilling game. Josie, playing in goal in both U11 games this weekend developed real confidence to call, whilst defending a short corner, that the attackers had not taken the ball outside the circle prior to their shot at goal leaving the referee with no option but to award us a free hit. Our halves toiled away in both attack and defence, and like the Div 1 girls, we are still working hard on funnelling the ball out wide and around the oppositions central defenders.
Chloe scored a very well deserved goal this week and ran like the wind all game to keep us in the hunt. The final score was 3-1 to the checks, but again it did not reflect the tireless effort put in by all the players this week. The Grill’d “Awesome Effort” award this week went to Chloe who in addition to scoring our only goal, stepped up and hustled all game, constantly hustling the opposition players. Great work Chloe.
U13/1 Girls – This week Uni Juniors div 1 versed Tuggeranong in Tuggers. It was completely freezing, but it warmed up.
At the end of half time it was 0 – 0 thanks to our amazing goalie who blocked soooo many shots! but within the first 2 minuets of the second half, Tuggeranong scored a goal. At the end of the day it was 4 – 0.

Grill’d “Awesome Effort” award this week was awarded to Olivia Keane for Fantastic listening to pre and half time talks and working hard to implement these strategies within the game, Great work Olivia.
U13/2 A Girls – This week, we versed Vikings in Tuggeranong. Unfortunately we lost 2-0. Which is ok seeing that we had great defence, that saved goals all the time.
The first half was great no one got any goals and meant that defence was excellent. Second half was good too but they did score 2 goals, but if it wasn’t for our amazing goalie they would’ve gotten more so well done Bridget you did great. The last 5 or so minutes we had an awesome run to the other team’s goal and had lots of tries but unfortunately did not get one in.  There were two injuries; Astrid and Sadie got hit and went off the field then came back on the field not long after, we all hope you are ok now!
This week Milla was chosen by Danni to receive the Grill’d “Awesome Effort” award for listening and trying new skills.
Good job everyone you did great and we can only improve from here!
U15/1 Girls – Our girls had a tough game against Central. We made some fantastic breaks up the field but were unfortunately stopped short. Central managed to get a goal in just before half-time and lead 1-0 until the second half when Lauren H scored a goal. Our backs were also on their toes however we managed to keep the ball out of our goal. It was a tough game. Well done girls :).  Best and Fairest this week was a three-way tie between Lucy, Lauren Y & Lauren H.  The Grill’d “Awesome Effort” award went to Lauren Y. ~ Ash
U15/2 B Girls – University Juniors div 2 team 1 versed University Juniors div 2 team 2, at Lyneham on Friday night. It was very chilly but worth watching for it was a close game with a 2 all draw. Last time we played the team we won, but a draw was a fantastic effort with alot of our team sick or playing div 1. The 13’s who played for us did an amazing job with Abbey the birthday girl scoring off a short corner. The other goal was scored by Chloe from a penalty hit at the beginning of the game. The team called really well and used the width of the field to their advantage. We had so many chances to score but didn’t take the ball for ourselves to score but rather passed around. Next time just take it and run! Great game girls and Happy Birthday to Abbey.
Grill’d “Awesome Effort” award went to Abbey for her consistent all round good performance and her spectacular display of acrobatics on the field with her perfect roll along the ground!
U18 Girls – The combined Uni Juniors/Central team finally had the chance to play against some serious competition, but unfortunately failed to bring their best to the game. Goulburn continually challenged us and we struggled to match their intensity and Goulburn scored early to further build their confidence. Towards the latter part of the first half UJ/C equalised through a well taken tomahawk by Abbey Connell. The 2nd half continued to see Goulburn dominate with territory and possession, helped by our uncharacteristic errors cheaply turning over the ball, but our defence led by Player of the Match Alanah Jansen, managed to repel wave after wave of Goulburn’s attacks.
The Grill’d Awesome Effort award has to also go to Alanah who had had very little to do all season, stood up to be counted with a sterling effort in goals!
Whilst we didn’t get the result we were after, we learnt plenty and feel we will be well placed to take on Goulburn when we next play them in 3 weeks.
