PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:
Welcome back and trust you have all had a great break and are recharged for the second half of the season.
Thank you to all the parents/guardians that have responded to our Hin2H/Game On survey. I can assure you that we will take on board all your comments (positive and negative) and where we have not delivered at the level required, have already commenced taking action to correct any deficiencies.
We are in a slightly unusual position in that we have grown so quickly and we have brought so many non-hockey families to our wonderful game, it does present us with some challenges. However, we as a Committee are more than happy to tackle them. To ensure this is the case, I am going to again put out a request for additional support at a Committee level especially from our Under 11 and Hin2H cohorts as all our current committee members have children at U13 or above age groups, so we are not always as in touch as we would like to be with our younger groups.
If you could be interested or would like to put your hand up, please don’t hesitate to make contact me.
To all, good luck to all the teams as you work towards further improving over the balance of the season and good luck to all teams whether you are shaping up as a semi-finalist or otherwise.
Andrew Sutton
President
IMPORTANT DATES FOR YOUR 2017 DIARY.
The second half of the season will teams hopefully heading towards finals, but we will be having a number of events before we wrap up late September. (please note HACT changes to H2H/Game On schedule):
- 26 August – this is the ANU/UC Club Day where 11 of the ANU and UC Men and Women teams play against each other and up for grabs is the Bunyip Trophy which UC is looking to claim for the first time. We have booked the BBQ for a sausage sizzle and we will be encouraging all our members from Hin2H to Under 18s to be involved throughout the day (wearing the UJHC playing uniform if possible).
- The 2nd Hin2H Carnival which was to be held on 2 September may be changed as it was due to be held then at Willows but there is insufficient field space– we will be in touch once that date and venue has been confirmed
- The Club will have its Hin2H/Game On Annual Presentations on either 2 or 9 September from 9.00am at Willows (TBC and will be subject to when Hockey ACT hold the Carnival). We will have a couple of kids v parents games, followed by presentations and finally a free sausage sizzle for the kids.
- 9 September – Semi Finals and Grand Finals for Under 11s; Semi Finals for Under 13s – U18s
- 17 September – Grand Finals for Under 13-18s
- 21 September – Under 11 – 18 Presentation Night Ainslie Football Club (invitation to follow)
2017 RESULTS & FIXTURES: LINK / https://sportsdesq.onesporttechnology.com/15/
Our UJHC players who competed as part of the Canberra Hockey Regional Team (in no particular order) Amaru, Tom, Meher, Aiden & “Banksy Jr”. The boys in the Div 4 team made it to the semis but were unsuccessful in their efforts whilst the Div 2 team lost their final in a golden goal with extra time. Better luck next year boys!
The two “Laurens” from UJHC enjoying a successful U13 Regional Carnival. From all reports, a fantastic time had by all with a runners-up placing. Well done to our girls and boys who competed in the 2017 competition. The club are very proud of your representation.
“Thank you” goes out to the parents who were able to make the travel West to allow their child to participate. It’s a long haul for only a couple of days but we had a wonderful club representation and that’s awesome!!
Well done and congratulations to all our Uni J/s players who are stepping up to play up in the Women’s and Men’s divisions (ANU & UC).This week, we have highlighted Ashling Donnelly. Our U18’s player who after a year in SL1 for ANU, deservingly secured her place in the CL2 team for 2017. Because of her hard work at training and on game day, Ashling has been asked to fill in for CL1 which is a huge achievement!! Ashling also attends to Umpiring duties for Uni Juniors and HACT. Is there any stopping this player? We are very proud and wish Ashling all the very best in her sporting journey.

Hockey Juggling – Saturday 5th of August.
What is hockey juggling? Hockey juggling is essentially bouncing a hockey ball on your stick continuously for 30 seconds. This means juggling the ball at a manageable level. When juggling the ball, the ball should not be raised juggled above shoulder level (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSvDGPM7gHg).Why are we “hockey juggling”? Simply put, we thought it was a great fundraising initiative, and a way to get extend the reach of Chris MacKinnon Memorial Weekend.
When: Saturday August 5. Meeting at 3:30pm over by the hill next to the Carter Field.
The actual juggling will take place at Half-Time during the CL1 Women’s United v Central game (at approximately 4:05pm).
Where: The juggling will occur on the Carter Field. To get on to the Carter Field at half time, we will be using the two gates on the northern side of the field (near the old ACTAS Gym and Changerooms).See map below, I have included a dotted line. No one involved in the hockey juggling should be going any closer to the dugouts than the area where the dotted line is on the map (intersection of the D and the Base Line). The reason for the restriction is to ensure both Central and United teams have ample room for their half time chat, but also to increase the visibility of the hockey jugglers (we all know how tough it can be to see the pitch over the dugouts).

To take part in the hockey juggling, all we ask is that you donate a gold coin, and wear a bit (or a lot) of pink. No one is too young or old to take part. It’s open to all members, friends, and anyone in the hockey community!
The website (http://www.hockeyact.org.au/News/chris-mackinnon-memorial-weekend-hockey-juggling ) has all of the information you need to participate.
