PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:
With June coming to an end, so does our FUNdraiser with Grill’d. Whilst we have been beaten by a very worthy organisation, Victims of Crime, we would like to thank all that made the trip to Grill’d in the City to assist in our cause. It seems that our enthusiasm has caught on with Grill’d becoming supporters of our club and in particular last weekend our U13/1 team. We are hoping to build on this relationship kicked off by Tamara a month ago.
We have also received great support from Coles in the City and Barry Hawkes Butchery in either supplying free or discounted items for our BBQ – thank you to both.
While the season takes a break, please note in your diaries a few important dates in the second half of the season which are noted below.
The next newsletter will be out in the week commencing 17 July but if anything important comes up in the meantime, we will email you accordingly.
Andrew Sutton
President
GRILL’D – Canberra Centre
It was with great pleasure that we held our recent Committee meeting at Grill’d in the City. We purchased meals and added to the collection of bottle tops in our FUNdraising jar. If you are in the city and need to eat, Grill’d is a great idea!! Remember, every vote goes toward a financial benefit for the club.
The second half of the season will teams hopefully heading towards finals, but we will be having a number of events before we wrap up late September. Please note in your diaries:
A REMINDER:
There is NO training next week or for the following 2 Mondays/Wednesdays and we resume training the week commencing 17 July.26 August – this is the ANU/UC Club Day where 11 of the ANU and UC Men and Women teams play against each other and up for grabs is the Bunyip Trophy which UC is looking to claim for the first time. We have booked the BBQ for a sausage sizzle and we will be encouraging all our members from Hin2H to Under 18s to be involved throughout the day (wearing the UJHC playing uniform if possible).
Committee takes a break!!
Whilst Uni Juniors Hockey Club players take a break from competing, it is a great chance for the dedicated Committee to do the same.
If you have an urgent enquiry, please call Andrew Sutton on 0412 618 975
or email contact@unijuniorshockey and all attempts will be made to respond to you in a timely manner.

Each week, you will have the opportunity to read reports from previous weekend games. We ask that you please understand that reports can be written by players of all age groups & level of comprehension/grammar standards. Our job is to enjoy and celebrate the child standing up and publishing a reflection of something as powerful as sport.
U11/1 Boys: A tough game for the boys with a quick starting United scoring 2 early goals.
After the initial shock the boys fought hard and were rewarded with a goal late in the half. The second half saw the boys create plenty of opportunities but couldn’t get one over the line before a late United goal sealed the game.
Well done to Brayden for making shadow on the U12 boys PSSA hockey team.
Best & Fairest was Mehar and DecklanU11/2 Boys
U11/1 Girls Team: We had a well-fought match against Tuggerangong Valley this week. They were a strong team and had several shots at goal which Olivia brilliantly saved!
In the first half we made a string of terrific passes to get the ball to Sophie in the circle who scored, so we were 1-0 at half time. With only 1 sub, we started getting a bit tired in the second half and Tuggeranong got a goal. There was some excellent passing by everyone and thoughtful free hits out wide and into space. The final score line was 1-1.

U11/2 Girls Team: Our girls had a tough game against Girls Grammar on the weekend. We made some fantastic breaks up the field but were unfortunately denied by a very strong defence from the Grammar full back. Our backs were also on their toes however and managed to keep the ball out of our goal, keeping the game to a nil all draw.

U13/1 Girls Team: Thank you to the team at Grill’d in the City for coming and watching the U13 Div team play on Saturday, it was awesome for you to see us play and bring Oranges and Red Frogs for full time. Thank you for your support.
“Uni juniors U13 girls div 1, faced of against St. Pats on a cold but crisp Canberra morning at Lyneham. Our nerves were on edge but we settled quickly into the game – we knew we were going to have our work cut out for us. Some admirable defence work and our determination saw us stop a number of goals for a respectable defeat of 2-0. A couple of near miss goals by us would’ve seen it a closer score.
~ Ruby Archer
U15/1 Girls: The game last Friday against Tuggeranong was really great! We all worked really hard with the score 0-0 at the end of the first half. Then Lucy had a run up the field and scored a great goal in the second half! Players players this week went to Ash who did a great job in the goals.
Amber 🙂
U15/2 Girls Team: This week we faced a tough challenge with a bye which we held at Grilled in Civic who are supporting the club this month. Burgers had by all with lots of laughs and banter. A great way to get together on a night off.
U18/1 Girls: The team headed south to take on North Canberra and after a slow start where NC defences held strong for the first 20 minutes, the floodgates opened with 3 goals in the last five minutes of the first half, followed by another 4 in the second half. The team played its best hockey in that period by using both the width and depth to find space behind the defence to create some fantastic team goals. Best and Fairest were Ashling and Woody.
