PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:
As our teams and their respective player numbers have settled we now have close to 190 players (excluding those guesting from the other clubs in our many combined teams). This is an incredible increase on our 150 odd last year and a great reflection on our Club and all those that play as well as those who contribute as Committee members, Coaches, Managers and Supporters. We are extremely proud of our achievements to date but know that we must continue to work hard to continue delivering at a high standard. I again put out an appeal for additional Committee members to put their hands up now, to allow us to continue to operate at this very high level.
Well done to all those that have represented Canberra at the various NSW State Championships in recent weeks and good luck to those who are still competing and will do so especially at the Canberra June Long Weekend Carnival and other Regional Carnivals/Championships. Also good luck to those that have made the next phase of the Senior Schools Sport trials coming up in the next week or so.

NO CLUB Training – Monday 5 June 2017
A quick reminder there will be NO Club training on the pitches next Monday at the Hockey Centre. Some teams have organised whiteboard sessions or possibly social events, but please do not turn up for on field training as you will be disappointed.
CLUB
ROSTER 2017
Members, as most of you are aware, the Club is involved in running lucrative BBQs over at the Willows grounds throughout the outdoor season. Below is the Age group roster.
It is imperative that you strongly consider putting your hand up to assist. Those who always assist and others who haven’t had the chance previously! The BBq runs out at Willows playing fields (ANU just off Barry Drive) Saturday mornings from 8-12:30pm. Four adults are required to be a the BBQ cooking, taking money, serving & support. No child under the age of 10 should be behind the bbq area and children U15 should not be cooking, they can WORK WITH an adult and take orders/money. A Committee member will set you up with everything you need and be around to support you if in need. Please be in contact with your team manager ASAP and organise the time in which you are offering to assist.
Managers, you need to manage the list of volunteers and be in contact with with either Tamara Linehan or Tracey Burgess as to your progress.
Round 7 – 17 June – U11s and U18s
Round 11 -5 August – U15 girls
Round 15 – 2 September – U13 and U15 Boys.
Remember, your club fees and other considerations rely on the BBQ’s and we would really like to see as many as possible offering support. It’s easier than selling chocolates!!

#National Hockey Week, June 17-25 2017
Hockey Australia is running two social media campaigns over the course of the week, and it would be great to see as many clubs participate in them as possible.
- #100YardChallenge – This contest Hockey Australia will conduct on social media. Clubs, hockey players, or anyone can participate and to do so upload a photo/video on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Youtube with the hashtag #100YardChallenge. The objective is to get a hockey ball from one end of the pitch into the goal at the other end. This can be done by hitting the ball once or multiple times, with one of multiple players. Fastest time wins. The video must be a one-shot style video (video created without any edits and in one single take). Special consolation prize for most creative entry.
Uni Juniors players, we need to put our heads together and come up with a plan of attack!! Have a chat amongst your team mates and chat with your Coach/Manager. When an idea is presented and everyone is keen to participate, please send your idea (email subject reference: Team, Division – #100 Yard Challenge) to Communications@unijuniorshockey.com.au or Webmanager@unijuniorshockey.com.au so we can collate ideas and construct a plan!! - The Pride of Hockey – Hockey Australia will launch a social media campaign for you to nominate a person who you think is ‘The Pride of Hockey’ because of the good work they’ve done in hockey, for hockey, or to promote hockey in any way. Hockey ACT will be looking to nominate several people for the Pride of Hockey, so if you can start thinking about people involved with your club, or people who have been involved with your club who have contributed to hockey please let me know.

Each week, you will have the opportunity to read reports from previous weekend games. We ask that you please understand that reports can be written by players of all age groups & level of comprehension/grammar standards. Our job is to enjoy and celebrate the child standing up and publishing a reflection of something as powerful as sport.
U11/1 Boys – Report
The boys played an excellent game against the Old Canberrans. It was one of the toughest games they played, but won 6-0. The team played well, and managed lots of shots at goal. There were a few times when the Old Canberrans got the ball to our circle with no fullbacks there, but midfielders arrived just in time. Special thanks to Jakson, who came and played for us. This was a good game, since now we know how well all the teams play. Ethan did an outstanding job as goalkeeper, and he saved lots of goals. For his debut in goals, he Ethan played awesomely. Massive thanks to Kirsty and Zeb, for being super coaches.
Best and fairest last week was Decklan and this week was Mehar.

U11/1 Girls – Report
We played Central on the weekend. It was a hard game and it was very hot. Emma told us we looked a bit tired and sleepy at half time so then we all ran faster in the second half and me and Olivia nearly scored a goal. We didn’t win but it was fun. All our faces were very red at the end of the game. Luca nearly melted in the goalie gear and the whole team had to help her take it off in the middle of the field.

U11/2 Girls – Report
Each week our girls are getting stronger and more confident and its certainly showing during the weekend games. Our defence is really solid now and Josie has definitely found her niche position as full back – well done Josie on a superb game, your sweeping tackles saved many goals! Unfortunately we went down to Central on the weekend 4-nil but not for lack of trying and enthusiasm on our part. Over the next few weeks at training we’ll work on our attacking skills and teach the girls how to confidently move the ball up the field.
U13/1 Girls – Report
We had a tough game, going down to Tuggeranong. Tuggeranong had a great attack, with Jess doing some great saves and a few dives. We got more determined in the 2nd half, and managed to get a goal, due to fabulous teamwork. Zoe had some great runs down the wing, while Lauren. H, Lauren. Y and Olivia, worked hard at the goal. Altogether, we had an okay game.

U13/2 Girls – Report
It was a lovely sunny morning at the Tuggeranong fields on Saturday May 27. Uni Juniors U13 Div 2 was defeated by TVWHC 5-0.Despite the final result I think our defence was pretty good, with Milla in goals saving more than she let in. With more focus on player positioning and spreading the ball out wide, I think that we might give ourselves more opportunities in attack.
A big thank you to Danni for filling in as coach in Becky’s absence.

Bye Weekend
U15/2 B Girls – Bye Weekend “Mini Golf” bonding session!
This week Rachel’s team played an extraordinary game where the team really had the opportunity to bond. They dodged gorillas and lions while being watched by tiki masks. They used their excellent dribbling skills to compete against each other in a fantastic game of flow in the dark jungle golf. There was much fun and laughter and lots of competitive spirit. A great opportunity for the girls to bond and have some fun and a laugh off the field. Nobody kept score but I think we had a team of winners all round.
