Presidents Message

president  PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

One of the strong and positive characteristics of our Club is our awareness of the troubles that social media and technology can cause with respect to bullying and harassment.
We have already been made aware of one instance where bullying has occurred and as a Club, we join with Hockey ACT, in taking action against those that behave in this manner.

As parents/guardians, I ask that you all ensure that your children are aware of the Club and Hockey ACT policies in this regard.  For further information please refer to the following link:
http://www.hockeyact.org.au/Portals/24/Corporate%20Documents/2017/2017%20Social%20Media%20Guidelines.pdf

On a more positive note, our fundraising activities continued over the weekend with the first of two Bunnings barbeques. We are extremely fortunate to have these opportunities (as they are not always open to sporting clubs).  Tirelessly and brilliantly led by Tracey Burgess who was at Bunnings from 7.00am until 5.00pm!!! and supported by a small number of parents and children/players, a fantastic day was had with a significant surplus resulting.  We should also acknowledge the support of Coles who provided much of the supplies for the barbeque at no charge. thank you to Tamara Linehan for facilitating this important relationship.

The season is now underway and whilst we have had a few teething problems, we believe the start has been really positive.  Again if anyone has any questions, concerns or issues, please do not hang on to them, come forward to the Committee ASAP so that we can address them before they escalate.

Have a great week and all the best for the coming weekend.

Andrew Sutton

President

BUNNINGS BBQ!!    “THANK YOU!!” to everyone who could!!

Results from the recent BUNNINGS BBQ were truly remarkable. Unbelievable effort goes out to our Treasurer Tamara Linehan who organised COLES in the City who kindly donated 90% of the bulk of items for the BBQ and The Butcher Shop in Dickson who offered us sausages at a bargain price & Bunnings who offered us a place to raise healthy funds!
COLES proudly supporting our Bunnings BBQ 2017
The Butcher Shop in Dickson
 Where every D.I.Y begins!!
We ask that you support these business’s will all of your pantry and fresh food needs. We couldn’t have done it without them.
Fantastic effort by a couple of our players (and even a sibling!) assisting where needed. We hope to see a sea of “hands up” from U13-U18 players next BBQ.

Huge “ups” to Bbq expert Andrew Sibrra for dealing well with the stress at one point of the day (lunchtime), as he worked with a very faulty bbq unit. Hot and cold areas & gas burner issues.
Thankyou to our parents – Rachel, Rebecca, Melanie, Annabelle, Michael, David, Tim, Craig, Graham and Leanne. Your support has been recognised.

Well done everyone, it was truly a team effort all round.
– Tracey Burgess – Communications and Social

impire  Club Umpires, Joeys and Uni J’s Mentoring players,

REPORTS   Each week, you will have the opportunity to read reports from previous weekend games. We ask that you please understand that reports can be written by players of all age groups & level of comprehension/grammar standards. Our job is to enjoy and celebrate the child standing up and publishing a reflection of something as powerful as sport.

U11/1 Boys – Report
What an awesome start to the season with a great win over tuggers. Score was 5-0 at half time, with the final score being 10-0.  Our goalie Alex had a great game clearing any ball that came his way.We would like to welcome the new boys Alex, Cameron and Reuben to our team and thanks to Angus for helping out.
by Brayden

Best and Fairest this week went to Mehar who scored an impressive 5 goals.  (acknowledging the hard work by the team in the lead up to each score).

U11/1 Girls – Report
An exciting first game. Central was a tough opponent but a goal from Olivia and good saves by Sophie led to a one nil win. We saw the beginnings of a great little team with the girls defending strongly and putting together a number of clever passing plays to move the ball up the field. Superstar mentions go to Emma and Luca – both girls listened at half time and worked hard to put the coaches tips into play. Well done!
– Vanessa

U11/2 Girls – Report
The girls kicked off their season with a tough but very equally-balanced game against Tuggeranong. For a few of the girls this was their first game of U11 hockey and it was lovely to welcome them to the team. With the score locked at nil-all leading into half time we put on a bit of pressure and were rewarded with a penalty corner on the siren which Gabby converted to our first goal for the season! Our spirits were high in the second half and we made some great plays out wide – special mention to Saraya who was always looking for a break to the sideline. Big props to Chloe for her gutsy tackling and Eugenia for her terrific saves in goal, and a huge well done to all the girls for a great first game all together and the 1-0 win.

U13/1 Girls – Report
Uni Juniors went down 2-1 to United on the weekend.
It was a bit of a scrappy game and we were 2-0 down at half-time but scored early into the second half (Lauren H)
We need to work on having a shot at goal once we are in the circle. Tash and Brooke (who filled in for us) did a really great job in defence and getting the ball out wide.
– Lauren Hancock

U13/2 Girls – Report
This Week Uni Juniors Under 13 Div2 played against the Tuggeranong Vikings in Tuggeranong.  Although the weather was bad and we had problems with the Goalie gear, we still tried really hard.  We lost 6-0 but our goalie Astrid and our fullbacks Milla and Juliette all worked really hard on keeping the goals out.  I think as a team we can improve, but it is only the second game and we are doing alright at the moment.

U15/1 Girls – Double header Report
Tough game against St Pats on Friday night on Taylor field with a 2-0 win to us! Very centred game with many things to still improve on but great passing and strength on the ball. They had many strong hitters but with our press, we trapped most of the balls and got into our attack for another shot. Circle penentration was solid and we got the chances to take many shots although their goalie stopped many attempts. Great defence stopped St Pats fast breakaways with no shots against us the whole game! Everyone played super well and it was great for a few people to ‘mix up’ their positions.
Special thank you to all the girls who helped our team out on Friday!
-Annie B

On Saturday, Uni Juniors U15/1 defeated Daramalan 4-0.  We played consistently throughout the game, with many attacking short corners and no defensive corners.  Our goal scorers for the match were Dani, Lauren Y, Lauren H and Lucy scoring off a stroke.  A big thanks to Paige, Astrid, Chloe and Dani for filling in from Div 2, it was much appreciated. Best and fairest went to Lucy followed closely by Lauren Y.

Annie B has been asked to play for her school – Daramalan.  Annie and her family would like to thank and acknowledge the Uni Juniors Club for the amazing development, support and opportunity they have presented over the years. You will still see Annie around the fields as it would be like holding back the tide to stop her from being SO socially connected! You will still hear from Tracey (Communications & Social) for the remainder of 2017.

U15/2 Girls – Double header Report
We had a very busy round this week with a game both Friday night and Saturday morning.
Friday nights game was out first game of the season following a bye in Round one.  We started the season with a good win against Grammar 2-0.  Our halves and fullbacks played a strong game which was obvious by the score. We made some good passes and traps throughout the game which  we will continue to develop over the season. Thank you to Tash and Brooke for stepping up from U13s to help us out on the night. Sophie

It was a tough game on Saturday against Checks. It was a tight game all way through. Uni was strong on their defence and managed to only let one goal in. Although we had no subs everyone played to their best abilities. Uni might not have been first to the ball but was definitely strong on tackling and marking. We managed to walk away with a 1-1 draw. Good job girls  – Ashleigh
– Cheers Tamara

U15/2 Girls – Report
On Saturday the 6th of May, Uni Juniors Div 2, had their first win of the season. We won against Daramalan 4-0. We started the game strongly with a goal early in the first half by me (Laura) and we kept that lead until half time. Then we got 3 u13 girls who came from their game in Tuggeranong and we scored 3 more goals. These were scored by Emmanuelle, Zoë (u13) and me (Laura). Suzi was very proud of our win and we played well with good short corners saved by our goalie, Bella. We all played really well, we spread out, trapped and hit well. All in all, it was a good game and we were all very proud of ourselves.
