president   PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

Firstly, led exceptionally well by Tracey, we had a fantastic morning at the Hockey ACT’s Come ‘n’ Try Day where over 25 new children were registered with the promise of plenty more to follow. Our table was easily the best equipped and the Committee were kept exceptionally busy throughout the morning.  We also had a number of our players helping out (Sophie – Brooke Linehan & Chloe – Tash Thomas & Imogen Hellyer) and they likewise, did a terrific job introducing some of the newer players to hockey. All in all a fantastic morning.

Secondly, we have our own Come ‘n Try evening at Willows Oval (corner North Road and Barry Drive) this Friday from 6 – 7.00pm. This immediately follows our regular Friday Evening Skills Session from 5-6.00pm.

Thirdly, registrations have now opened for all age groups – please see below for more details.

Finally, we had a number of teams competing in the indoor semi-finals over the past week, with our Girls Under 16 Div 1 and Under 12s and Boys Under 12 (2) prevailing. Commiserations to our Under 14 (1) girls who lost their first game of the season in the semi and the other Under 12 boys team who didn’t make it through the Grand Finals. Best of luck to the 3 teams playing later this week.

BBQ    Nominations for 2017 BBQ Manager

Our Club relies heavily on our Willows BBQ’s to raise funds for our club.

If you would like to manage the Uni Juniors BBQs at the Willows Playing fields during the 2017 Outdoor Season, please forward your details to Tamara Lineham (Treasurer)  HERE or Tracey Burgess (Comms & Social) HERE .

It will require you to run the very successful annual fundraiser on a roster basis (with other Canberra clubs), develop a parent/carer roster (each Uni J’s team to provide 4hr staffing once? per season), purchase food items and communicate finances with the Treasurer.

Ideally, we are looking for a person who would be able to organise themselves and others and to be able to give up 4 hours on a Saturday morning once per month (TBC).

Remuneration: You will be paid in full with the pleasure of simply being involved !!

It is a wonderful way to give back to the club and to develop relationships with others in the club.

If you can’t put your hand up to manage, please be at the ready to assist when asked!!

We thank previous BBQ Managers Andrew H,  Raj A, Suzi F and Meredythe C &Tracey for their service and commitment to the position.

Indoor Game Reports

Some of the reports you will have the opportunity to read have been produced by the players themselves. Please understand that they are written with excitement and spelling and grammar may not be their top priority!

Under 14/1 Indoor

Unfortunately we were defeated by St Pats 4-3 in the semi, bowing out after an undefeated season.  A goalie kicker malfunction before the start of the game didn’t help, with us forced to play a kicking back for the entire game. It wasn’t our teams best game, but credit to St Pats who played very well & had improved significantly from when we played them during the season.  Despite missing the final all girls had a great season & all improved in various ways.  They should be pleased with their efforts over the duration of the season.

Coach: Patrick

Under 16/1 Indoor

Our semi-final match against Norths was a close game, but we deservingly came out on top with a 3-2 win. The girls’ teamwork and skill was outstanding in this game, with everyone giving their all in crucial stages of the game against a very physical side.

At full time, there was a score of 2-2 meaning we would play penalty shoot outs, a one on one contest with the keeper lasting six seconds. Our keeper, Ash, saved all three of Norths’ attempts with a terrific performance, and our side managed to put away the winning goal. Next week we play Central in the grand final and we are hoping to be crowned premiers. Congratulations this week girls!

Thank you, Clare Bradshaw

We would love to see a sea of Uni Juniors supporters cheering for us!!

Sunday 5/3/17 @ 3pm at the TTM Lyneham Hockey Centre Indoor Court

Wear your Uni colours and cheer the girls on!
