PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:
Friday evening Skills sessions resume next Friday at 5.00pm at Willows Oval ANU. These sessions are designed for those that are new to the game to those who have played for a few years but are looking to improve their skills. With our recruitment drive well and truly underway, these sessions are a fantastic introduction to hockey and go over everything about how to hold the stick, through to pushing, hitting, tackling, passing, etc through to improving on all the basics. At the end of the skills training, we always finish up with a game which the kids love (especially if they play and beat the adults!).
There is no need to register or commit to turn up every week – just come along when you can and bring $5 per child per session. We will have spare sticks for those that do not have them.
If you know someone who is interested in trying out hockey please send them this newsletter or direct them to our website for further information.
The Committee is meeting later this week and following the meeting, there will be plenty of information about our pre-season activities including the Hockey ACT Come n Try Day (another fantastic opportunity to bring newcomers along to meet us and have a go at hockey); our Club Day which will incorporate grading for all ages from Under 11s, our AGM and a barbeque etc.

The Long weekend Regional Tournament & State Championships are an opportunity for players sporting development and personal growth. We encourage all of our Uni Juniors players to consider trialling for their respective age group.
ACT Hockey work quite hard to ensure our State has a good representation in all age groups and we as a club, need to support them. On that, if you feel you have what it takes to support a team by Managing, please contact Jesse Beeson ASAP. It’s a wonderful way to become involved & gain an understanding of exactly what is involved from a business perspective in running a team and a bonus is that you will meet & communicate with parents/carers from your own club and other Canberra clubs.

Indoor Game Reports
Some of the reports you will have the opportunity to read have been produced by the players themselves. Please understand that they are written with excitement and spelling and grammar may not be their top priority!
Under 16/1 Indoor 29/01/17
WOW!! It was a fantastic start to the continuation of the Indoor comp! We played hard and took complete control of the game from the get go resulting in a 10/0 win. Huge effort from the Central 2 team, they tried to ruffle our feathers on a couple of occasions but our girls seemed to have an answer each and every time.
Lucy and Ash were standouts in this particular game, they ran hard and with the undeniable control and tenatious assistance of their team members, produced result after result. THANK YOU to Ashling and Catorina D for coaching and assisting the girls throughout the game.
