presidentPresidents Message:

As we near the conclusion of 2016, we reflect on another great year for our still young club. Participation remains strong and of course we had some great successes in terms of finals and representative hockey.

Off the field we have become incorporated and finalised our strategic plan and the committee has worked extremely hard to ensure the long term success of our Club.

All that remains is for me, on behalf of the Committee, to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for the New Year. We look forward to seeing you again when the indoor season resumes late January.

Andrew Sutton
President

Is there a hockey stick on your child’s Christmas List??santa
If Santa needs to know what size stick your youngster may need…. you can tell Santa that a ‘general guide’ (for kids up to 10 years?) is the top of the stick is level with the belly button. Players 10+ need to speak to Al or Matt at the FHE Hockey Shop located at the TTM Lyneham Hockey Centre. For opening times, please contact them: 02 6247 1572  /  webiste: HERE

rebel-sportThe other alternative is to consider our recent arrangement with REBEL SPORT

– it’s as easy as 1,2,3 oh – 4!

  1. SELECT GOODS,
  2. MENTION University Juniors hockey Club
  3. PURCHASE GOODS,
  4. CLUB SPENDS ON EQUIPMENT FOR OUR PLAYERS!
With every purchase, a percentage is added to the club’s rebate total. You can purchase clothing, footwear, hats/caps (including sticks, shin guards & mouth guards etc.) and SO much more.
University Juniors Hockey Club is a very proud club and continues to be a financially stable club for you and your child/ren to be associated.

sponsorshipAs all clubs across any sport do, we are putting a call out for sponsorship.

If you feel you have a business or work for a business that could potentially become a sponsor to the club at any level, please contact the club Treasurer – Tamara Linehan at Treasurer@unijuniorshockey.com.au to discuss your involvement in 2017 and beyond. We look forward to developing positive relationships.

Please go HERE for all up to date post weekend and season results. Allow Managers & ACT Hockey a couple of days after the game to have results up for you to view.

MID WEEK/WEEKEND POST MATCH REPORTS….
We hope you enjoy the follow account of recent games played. Please keep in mind that we do ask for the players to write reports for the newsletter. Some may not have the best grammar or spelling as we do attempt to keep reports as authentic as best as we can. It’s important.

Teamwork – The process of working collaboratively with a group of people in order to achieve a goal. Teamwork is often a crucial part of a team or business, as it is often necessary for players or colleagues to work well together, trying their best in any circumstance. Teamwork means that people will try to cooperate, using their individual skills and providing constructive feedback to achieve.

INDOOR GIRLS U12/2 – The girls all put in an amazing effort this round against a competitive Central team. All the girls played with a lot of energy and really kept the Central girls on the run with some excellent marking. Last time we played this team we went down 6-0 and this round we were leading 1-0 until the last 5 minutes of the game when we were very unlucky to let in 2 quick goals which saw us lose 2-1. That’s still a fantastic result and shows just how much the girls have improved so far this season. We’re sure the girls will come back even stronger in the new year. Special thanks to Eilish for stepping up for us when we were short 2 players. Her help was much appreciated.   Thanks!     Coach Rachel

INDOOR BOYS U14 – Last Friday our U14 Boys versed Central knowing this would be a strong opponent. Soon Central scored their first goal and despite goalkeeper Reimer making some impressive saves, another four goals followed before Douglas managed to score. In the second half we saw great determination from Jasper and Will and both Douglas and Aiden H managed to score. Solid defence from Aiden T and Jay-Jay could not prevent five more goals from Central resulting in a 10-3 loss. The team farewelled Jasper and family who will be moving to Byron Bay. Their commitment, enthusiasm and friendship will be sorely missed!

INDOOR GIRLS U16/1 – Uni J’s played a potentially strong North Canberra Hockey Club last Sunday. They were down a player but we showed much strength and awesome teamwork and came away with a confident win. Well done everyone!

INDOOR GIRLS U16/2 – University Juniors U16 girls Div 2 lost nil 8 this week to Old Canberrans Hockey Club. One of our players got sick so there were no subs for most of the match. The girls were very tired by the end of the second half but tried their best and enjoyed the game.Areas we need to improve on include our press, using the boards and working together. ‘Checks’ put on a good attack but we worked hard and kept the play moving quickly.

INDOOR GIRLS U18 – Uni had a great game this week against CGGS dominating in attack. We entered the game with the mindset of ‘play your hardest no matter how strong the other team is’, helping us enjoy the game much more. We ended the first half up 3-0 with Emma scoring two goals and Ashley scoring the third. In the second half Grammar began to play stronger putting much more pressure on our defence. Unfortunately we conceded one goal in the middle of the half. Ashling went on to conclude our game with another goal finishing us for the year with a great win. It was a great way to end the year and we are all looking forward to starting back at the beginning of February.  by Mackenzie
